Hyundai Motor Previews Soon-To-Be Launched All-New Genesis Premium Sedan

Hyundai Motor Company, South Korea’s largest automaker, held an ‘All-New Genesis Media Preview’ for the Korean media at Hyundai Motor Group’s R&D Center and officially unveiled the first image renderings of the car. The purpose of the pre-launch media event was to promote its domestic launch scheduled later this year. Staging its world-premiere in Korea, the all-new Genesis will debut in major markets next year.

“Launched in 2008, Hyundai’s first premium rear-wheel drive sedan Genesis surprised the industry with its outstanding product competitiveness,” said Moon Sik Kwon, head of Hyundai Motor Group’s R&D Center, in his welcome remarks. “The evolved all-new Genesis is the product of Hyundai’s best resources and capabilities and we strongly believe it will be a game-changer in the market.”
With a total investment of 500 billion KRW, the project began with the aim of developing a world-class premium rear-wheel drive sedan, and it took four years to develop the current model.

Its main strengths are: Premium and distinctive design, best-in-class chassis system, premium European brands’ level of driving and R&H performance, cutting-edge safety and convenience features.

With emotional touches included in every detail, conveying Hyundai’s brand identity ‘Modern Premium,’ the all-new Genesis has secured best-in-class basic product competitiveness through numerous tests carried out in various locations worldwide, including the famed Nürburgring in Germany.

DESIGN

Since its introduction in 2009, Hyundai’s unique design philosophy ‘Fluidic Sculpture’ has evolved to the next level and the all-new Genesis is the first model to adopt Fluidic Sculpture 2.0.

While maintaining its original essence, Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 is defined by core elements: Simple and harmonious design with refined fluidic design elements, modern Hyundai look with a singular hexagonal grille, easy-to-understand and pleasant design and rich visuotactile color, material and finishing of the car.

Designed based on this new philosophy, the all-new Genesis boasts a premium sports sedan look with refined, ‘in-motion’ design aesthetics. A single-frame premium hexagonal grille makes a bold front statement, while fluidic and voluminous surfacing complete the side lines. Meanwhile, the high-tech, sculptural surface emphasizes the rear design.

Its interior design aligns with the premium exterior, adopting consistent design details that fully reflect careful consideration of ergonomics and intuitive operation. Tailored design specifications for all materials and master craftsmanship-level finish strengthen its premium image.

The all-new Genesis also focuses on Human Machine Interface (HMI), which lets drivers intuitively recognize vehicle functions, allowing for more convenient and effective use of those functions.
Switches are categorized depending on their function, facilitating easier control. Symbols are standardized for intuitive recognition, and the feel of the grip and control have been improved as well.

Starting with the all-new Genesis, future models will be designed based on Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 and its HMI principles.

SAFETY

The all-new Genesis significantly improved its safety in crash tests due to improved body structure and rigidity.

Its torsional and bending stiffness have been increased by applying more ultra-high-strength steel, hot-stamping and double-section structure on the front, partitioned engine room design as well as improved rear and center floor structures.

Passenger safety has been improved by the application of advanced seatbelt functions such as Emergency Fastening Device system (EFD), which tightly fastens passengers in crashes, and Pre-Safe seatbelt, which warns of danger in advance by tightening the seatbelt.

PERFORMANCE

With improved suspension and application of various advanced technologies, the all-new Genesis offers top-class driving and ride & handling performances. Greatly improved lateral stiffness of the front and rear suspensions and excellent weight balance contribute to the making of a stable chassis. Meanwhile, application of electronic control suspension such as Advanced Traction Cornering Control (ATCC) enables greater stability in corners.

Furthermore, Rack-mounted Motor Driven Electric Power Steering (R-MDPS) was first applied to the model with a variable gear ratio, which provides high-speed stability and direct response at low and medium speeds.

Hyundai’s ‘HTRAC’ all-wheel drive system will also be available for the first time on the all-new Genesis. The advanced HTRAC system electronically controls torque split between the front and rear axles depending on road and driving conditions, offering greater stability on slippery roads and in corners. It also allows drivers to select driving modes for a sophisticated and tailored driving experience.

Hyundai Santa Fe Named 2013 'CUV of Texas'

The all-new 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe has been named the 2013 “CUV of Texas” by the Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA). Issued at the 21th annual Texas Truck Rodeo near San Antonio, the win complements the Santa Fe Sport’s victory as “Compact CUV of Texas” in last-year’s competition.

“We are very pleased the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe has been named ‘CUV of Texas’ and proud to see that the Santa Fe family continues its winning streak at the Truck Rodeo,” said Mike O’Brien, vice president, Corporate and Product Planning, Hyundai Motor America. “Given the fact that Santa Fe Sport was named Compact Crossover at last year’s Rodeo, TAWA members have further confirmed the amazing versatility of this crossover with its five, six or seven passenger configurations.”

Comprised of active TAWA media members, the 2013 Texas Truck Rodeo evaluated some of the industry’s leading trucks, SUVs and crossover utilities. In order to put each vehicle through its paces, the famed Knibbe Ranch in Spring Branch, Texas served as the event’s proving grounds. With driving surfaces varying from bumpy pavement, loose gravel, slick mud, steep hills, jagged rocks and water crossings, each candidate stayed busy throughout the two days of testing.

“TAWA members overwhelmingly selected the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe as the Crossover of Texas,” said Michael Marrs, TAWA President. “Crossovers are important to Texans as they need vehicles that deliver on comfort, functionality and reliability. Hyundai exceeded those expectations and had the best product in the category.”

Entered into one of the most cross-shopped segments in the automotive industry, the Santa Fe topped tough competitors such as the 2014 Dodge Journey, 2014 Chevrolet Equinox, 2014 Kia Sorento, 2014 GMC Terrain Denali and 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander. Hailed by journalists for its blend of value, mileage, capability and driving dynamics, the Santa Fe found its way up rocky hills, down steep inclines, and around sweeping back-roads all while returning impressive fuel economy and pleasing driving dynamics.

With two days of evaluation, TAWA members judged the vehicles on a variety of considerations. Aspects from exterior styling to road manners as well as pricing, fuel mileage, and off-road capability were all taken into account. Voting was conducted anonymously via electronic ballots.

The 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe is a new breed of crossover utilities with multiple trims, all-new powertrains and segment exclusive features and equipment. With a segment leading standard 290 horsepower 3.3 liter GDI V6, six-speed automatic transmission, and availability of either seven or six passenger configurations, the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe has rightfully earned the title “CUV of Texas”. Blue Link telematics and Driver Selectable Steering Mode (DSSM) come standard and help separate the Santa Fe from the crowd.

An all-new “Fluidic Sculpture” design gives the third generation Santa Fe the impact of constant motion while opulent interior features such as heated seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel give world-class comfort and amenities. Combined with 320 lb weight loss compared to the outgoing Veracruz model and an IIHS “Top Safety Pick”, a base price of $28,600 keeps the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe competitive in a very crowded segment.

Hyundai Adds New Dimension To Assurance Program With New Federal Employee Payment Deferral Plan

Hyundai announced late last week the latest addition to its Assurance program with the launch of a new payment deferral program aimed at helping federal employees furloughed during the government shutdown. Under the plan, Hyundai will extend all auto loan and lease payments during the shutdown for current Hyundai owners who are furloughed.

“We recognize the impact on family budgets that the furlough will drive,” said John Krafcik, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor America. “Like we did almost four years ago when we launched Hyundai Assurance, this is our way of saying ‘We’ve got your back’ during this uncertain time.”

Current owners in the Hyundai family will be provided relief from payments for as long as they are out of work. Furloughed employees who wish to buy a car in October will be offered a 90-day payment deferral.

It is estimated that more than 800,000 workers will not get paid during the shutdown. Like the original Hyundai Assurance job loss protection program, the federal employee payment deferral plan is aimed at helping workers at a time when they most need it. The program is available to any customer who has financed his or her purchase or lease through Hyundai Finance America.

Hyundai Teams With EGR Group To Build "Yellowcake" Night Racer Veloster Turbo For SEMA Show

EGR Group, a leading OEM and aftermarket accessory supplier for nearly four decades, is developing a custom EGR Night Racer concept based on the Hyundai Veloster Turbo that is guaranteed to turn heads. The racecar, designed specifically for time attack races at night racing circuits, will be showcased at the 2013 SEMA show in Las Vegas, November 5-8.

The EGR Night Racer’s most compelling cosmetic upgrade is a unique vivid yellow paint scheme. This custom-developed color, dubbed Yellowcake, was created by EGR in collaboration with the paint experts at PPG and Barry’s Speed Shop. With the addition of a Wurton roof-mounted LED light bar and custom ONEighty-branded headlights, the EGR Night Racer will be impossible to miss, especially on night racing circuits.

Modifications to the EGR Night Racer go far beyond cosmetics. Body rigidity has been increased significantly with the addition of a custom roll cage, and ride height is race-tuned with an ARK coil-over suspension and AEM strut brace. Bisimoto Engineering provided powertrain tuning expertise, boosting the 1.6-liter output to 250 horsepower, while oversized Brembo brakes, DPE 3-piece racing wheels and Toyo semi-slick racing tires ensure the power is kept under precise control.

“Veloster Turbo provides an ideal tuning platform for enthusiasts who want to modify their cars,” said Mike O’Brien, vice president, product planning, Hyundai Motor America. “EGR created a very special night-focused time attack car that perfectly showcases Veloster Turbo’s inherently sporty DNA.”

Hyundai Partners With Powertrain Guru Bisimoto To Create 1000 Horsepower SEMA Show Genesis Coupe

Hyundai is again partnering with the engine wizards of Bisimoto Engineering to create a 1,000 horsepower Genesis Coupe for the 2013 SEMA show in Las Vegas. Bisimoto Engineering is known for extracting awesome, reliable power out of production-grade, everyday powerplants, and the Bisimoto 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe is no exception, with 1,000 horsepower generated from a turbocharged Hyundai-factory-based 3.8-liter V6 engine. The Bisimoto powertrain uses newly-designed internal parts, using the naturally-aspirated Genesis Coupe 3.8 R-Spec engine as its core building block. The Bisimoto concept is designed for the reliability of a street car but with the outrageous power of a no-holds-barred racer.

“The key to producing reliable, high-horsepower engines goes well beyond the design, engineering and fabrication of performance parts. The core powerplant must be strong enough to withstand advanced modifications. The Genesis Coupe 3.8-liter Lambda engine is a thoroughly robust powerplant, and Bisimoto Engineering is excited to develop it to its full potential for the rigors of competitive motorsport,” said Bisi Ezerioha, owner of Bisimoto Engineering.

Complementing the extensive work underhood, Bisimoto created a custom Electric Blue paint, Denmatic design graphics package, ARK hood and Carbon Fiber decklid. From the rear view, a Burns stainless exhaust and Bisimoto rear badge round out the visual impact.
